36 Hours of Boston!

Take 2- on to the full day of Boston!

Since we got in yesterday about 8pm we didn’t get to enjoy a full day of this city. We check out of the hotel we were in, because, well, it wasn’t exactly up to par! Check into a Red Roof in about four miles down the street. Check in is at 1pm we take the risk and get there just after noon. There is one room open at the time got there, we dropped the dogs off and off to Boston we went. It’s rainy, cold and we had to leave the bad-boy cameras behind because really, what is the point in taking the risk of dropping them? We knew our shots would be limited and it was just safer for them to stay back at the hotel!

We take the toll roads into the city, I have no idea where we are headed, I assumed lunch, and really it didn’t matter I have no idea what there is to do in Boston on a rainy day.

We pull into some sort of district, it’s the best way I can describe the inner city of Boston. It looks historic, old buildings, tight streets and even tighter parking. The lot we pull into has a bunch of white tents looks to be merchants. The guy at the parking booth tells us to go back out to the street and take the next right and park behind a building.

We turn right, and as usual the parking is bumper to bumper car to car. Which makes me wonder how many cars get banged up by another person parking either in front or behind them? As we’re waiting to get into this back parking lot, I am watching a Mini fit snuggly into a spot that I know none of my cars would ever be able to fit into. I made the comment to my friend that if you live in Boston, a Mini is a must have as far as cars are concerned. They are very sporty (Type S at least) compact and the turning radius on that has to be out of this world. Anyways, we pull into the “back lot” and there is an abandoned building with what looks to have sheets where the wide windows once were.

Once we walk around the front I see we are at the “Sowa Open Market” and for you Non-Bostonians it is pretty much a market where venders, artist, and vintage collectors market their goods or products. I’ve heard about these sorts of things but the closest I’ve come is similar to a fair held once a year. Not an every weekend thing, unless you count a Flea-Market, but, this was completely different.

As we walk to the front of the warehouse, there are those white tents I saw earlier, we decide to start there. The first booth we come across is an older guy selling Olive Oil and what looks like Balsamic Vinaigrette. He greats us and asks us if we’d like to go on a journey and explore Italy. I am always up for a creative get away, even if it is only in my mind. Similar to being a kid and having a story read to you. He offers us each a piece of bread and instructs us when it is time to “sample” these amazing oils we are to break off a piece of bread and try it. Simple enough-let the journey begin. He whisks us away to Italy, almost the Southern part, just above Sicily he goes on to tell us about the trees on the hillsides, which are over thousands of years old. There are two types of olives he says, green which are younger and black which have matured. We sample the first oil it was from green olives. We dip the bread into it, it was buttery and sweet.

We venture 700 miles up to another part of Italy where black olives have been used to make this oil we are about to sample. He tells us that this oil has a pepper-like after taste. We break off a piece of bread and dip it into the oil. The texture is the same, not as sweet at first, but after you swallow it, a peppery sensation comes over your mouth. I love pepper, but this caught me off guard, even after I heard his warning.

After tasting both of those, I am a bit torn on which I like better. Might I add before this whole process I didn’t really pay much attention to any sort of olive oil and bought whatever it was from the store. Just as the man stated from the get-go this was a new experience and it would change my outlook and possibly be the best thing I taste all day.

The third oil is a blend of the first and second one, which after tasting was perfect for me. It was sweet as the first without so much of the pepper kick back as the second. Mental note-this is the one for me.

The fourth and fifth are a difference in processing not so much a difference in olives or location. He warned us after I nearly choked on the second, that these two would be very peppery and if I was overwhelmed by the second, I could possibly like the fourth, but the fifth was something to stay away from.

The fourth tasted a lot smoother and less kick back, he was right. The fifth was a little more “spice” but wasn’t too bad, very flavorful.

Next comes the balsamic, I had no idea how this stuff was made or ever paid too much attention to it. I know I liked it. It is made from grapes much like wine is made, the difference is, it is not corked. It has to breathe to let the water evaporate out and they use cheese cloth to cover the barrel to prevent anything from coming into it and ruining it. Just like wine, it is aged in barrels another difference is wine is stored in a cellar to keep it cool where as balsamic is stored in an attack to keep it heated.

There were three balsamic he had for us to try. The first one was the youngest at 3 years. It was tart and a little too bitter for my tastes. The second one is about 5 years old he goes on to say that would be fantastic over meat, fish or vegetables. A few drops over a cooked meal before serving it, not to marinate with, but to serve over a meal. He said it would be the most amazing thing anyone has ever tasted, and you would need a camera to capture their face since it is the greatest taste in the world. I tasted the second, and mind you, he is pouring these into mini shot like cups, it was sweet, smooth and I could only imagine it over a steak. The last one is 8 years old; they all start from the 3 year mark and change barrels at different year marks, using different wood to create a sweeter taste. This one is more a “dessert” type of balsamic, you should only need to put a drop or two on meat, fish, vegetables, ice cream, cheese or he even recommended fresh figs-if you can find them. It was amazing, he was right; it was sweet and perfect for any of those things he mentioned. It fit my taste buds perfectly; this was the balsamic for me.

The prices of the stuff weren’t cheap, but they sold themselves by the taste and his story. The part I loved the most was that he wasn’t pushy, told us where it came from what made it unique and how to serve it on what dishes to bring out the flavor of the oils. The olive oil I wanted was $35 for the bigger bottle ( I have a firm “bigger is better” policy when it comes to things in bottles) and $45. I told the guy I would be back I just didn’t want to carry around those bottles while I shopped around.

The next booth I came across was called “Noisy Bird Studio” it was these little square pendants that have abstract and non-abstract designs on them. The tops are water resistant and the backs are made with some sort of hard cardboard-like material. They’re nicely done, very “chic” I haven’t run across anything like this. When I travel I like to pick up new things, I was looking for a new bracelet along this trip but these will work just fine. They’re $7.95 each and if you buy 3 you get 1 free. I love promotions like that, I browse through her selection and pick up 3, put one back, change designs, commit to 4 and hand them to her to check out, she gives me my total but instead of paying I figured, hey, what is $23 more? 3 of 4 of those were all pink, while I do love me some pink, I wanted a few others to go with different outfits and more colors is always better than fewer right? I pick up 4 more and check out, grand total is $47.70 I opted not to buy the leather necklace, I am sure I have something at home to wear them on.

I am pretty excited at this point to have new necklaces; I walk around the rest of the white tents and come across a mosaic tent. I love mosaic; it’s so beautiful and very expensive. I took a few pictures of them the mirror I liked was $400 whoa! Few more artists filled the next few booths, one with wax things. There was a picture of several butterflies and they were three-dimensional with a light piece of wax over them that moved with a breeze, very creative. I did wonder though, with the heat in Florida in the summer, there is no way a vender like that would make money. Granted this is Boston, I just related it to my life for a moment. I finished the rest of the white-tents and headed toward the warehouse.

As you walk in its more similar to a bazaar type of sale, I ventured from table to table, a lot of antiques, vintage jewelry, pottery, china and other like things. I was still on the quest for a unique bracelet, I tried on a few at random tables but nothing “fit” what I was looking for. One lady had vintage purses, and a lady just before me had bought five or so and was still looking around. I was at the table and these crystal star dangling earrings caught my eye. I think its because my Mom always loved stars long earrings, I find myself buying things she would have enjoyed and it brings a little bit of peace to my heart.

I asked the lady how much the earrings were, they were $10, fine for them I didn’t feel the need to haggle. She also had one of those fender purses made out of license plates. This one was from New York and I know they retail for somewhere around $150-$300 I’ve seen them in stores. I asked how much, she said $100. I told her I would take the earrings, and offered $80 for the purse, she accepted. The purse was new; it has two rhinestones where the purse clasps together at the top, which is my favorite part. Has all of the tags on it and it says New York, which is where we are headed to tomorrow, I found it as the perfect fit for my travels. Like I need a reason to add a purse to my plethora that I have accumulated over the years, but this one is mine now!!

At this point I have reached the end of the Sowa Market and am ready to head out to get some lunch, very ecstatic that my friend has taken me here, it was a great taste of Boston! We head to the Olive Oil guy; pick up the oils we both wanted and asked him where we can find a good Italian place to grab a bite at. He recommends “Monica’s” on the North End, tells us how amazing the food is, decently prices and everything is made from scratch and tells us how to get there. We google it in the car and they open for dinner at 5:30 and average plates are about $25 per person. It’s about 2:30 now so we need to get some food before that.

We head over to the Harbor area; on the way there we pass by Harvard. It was amazing to see it looks old and historic and everything I would think an Ivy League School should look like. The gate that you first see on the corner is beautiful, the cursive “Harvard” lettering is just gorgeous. I didn’t get a chance to take pictures since it was so rainy but it sure was beautiful. We get to the harbor it is starting to rain more now and with the chill off the water it feels a bit colder than before. We park the car in a garage next to the aquarium and head out to snag a snack. There is a dock side sea food joint that looks great to me but it seems to be shut down so that is out. We look at another sea food place right across the street, check the menu and appetizers start at $25. For lunch? Not so much, we head around the corner to what looks to be a bakery type of a place called Sel De La Terre we duck in to avoid the rain and grab a table. The place is set up very quaint, places are set it looks a bit fancy, The hostess tells us they are serving brunch and asks if that will be okay for us, we agree it will be. We look over the menu and I see they have oysters. I love oysters, I order a half dozen since the girl tells me how fresh they are ( I figured I am about 20 feet from the ocean) and how great they taste. I also ordered the Boston Crab Cake Sandwich which comes with rosemary frites (french fries.) The Oysters come out, they look fantastic, the presentation is beautiful, and this is where I remember that I have never had raw oysters, I love oysters but I’ve always ordered them steamed, I’ve never ever thought about having them raw. I am stuck now, I can’t send them back, and I remember hearing that they are a natural aphrodisiac, which I wasn’t looking for either, but again, it crossed my mind as they’re sitting in front of me.

I figured they have to be good if I like them steamed, how much different can they be, right? I take the tiny fork and scoop one up, dip it into the sauce provided and put it in my mouth thinking it will taste pretty similar to what I am used to. I was wrong; it is now a texture thing that I am having an issue with. The flavor from the sauce is amazing; the slimy-slippery-watery feel to them is semi grossing me out. I ordered these and I am going to eat them, I get through about 3, so 3 down, 3 to go. Some of them are less slippery than others, I get to the last one, and I am taking a drink after each one just to clear the slimy feeling. The last one I pick up and its all sorts of watery, go figure, the last one has to be the weirdest one..great. I eat it, no issues; it wasn’t as bad as I though, it was more a texture thing. Shortly after that experience, lunch arrives. The crab cakes are in 2 mini sliders they are stacked pretty tall with tomato and lettuce and a spicy sauce on the bun. I bite into it, and it melts in my mouth, I am now convinced all of the other crab-cakes I have tasted over the years cannot I repeat, cannot hold a torch to this light, flakey, warm, perfectly compiled cake of crab. To top it off there are 2! There is nothing better than having an ecstasy of flavor in your mouth than knowing when you are finished more awaits you. Accompanying these 2 lovely delights of heavenly crab cake sliders are the rosemary frites, they are very thin and crispy the aroma they bring to your senses is amazing, it was light, not greasy and packed with the right amount of seasoning, the proportion of their size is just perfect. I have to say, this is the best lunch I have ever had. After doubting Boston after last night’s pizza disappointment, this is me eating my words, of course in crab-cake fashion. Boston, you do know your food!

While at lunch I was connected to the world, you know, facebook- a friend of mine works in Boston and was posting to me asking me what we’ve seen and done and making suggestions. She suggested the Quincy Market which was just about 2 blocks or so away. The Sowa Market was amazing, this one is all indoors and a “Bostonian” must-do she told me. We head over there; it’s a whole big district of shops and three big buildings, the one in the middle is the Quincy Market, it is filled with food from all over the world. Anything you can imagine having for the most part is there, why didn’t we know about this before lunch? Lunch was very good, so still happy with the choice! When you walk through the Quincy Market you end up at the other end of the building, there is another building about ten feet away with some little shops in it. To the right and to the left of the QM Building there are “North” and “South” buildings they all are store fronts. We shopped mostly the South since the QM has venders inside the outside of the building. (I know that sounds confusing, let me clarify-there is a separate section of the building where venders set up their kiosks that opens to the side of the south building, get it now?)

I love to buy random things, I went into a Christmas store, and I try to make a habbit of adding new ordiments to my tree every year. Typically what happened in the year, places I saw, things I did, hobbies I have ect. I walk into the Christmas store hoping to find something to add to my collection, I saw a Boston ordiment that would be perfect, Says BOSTON in big bold red letters, has a lobster, a shore line and little Red Sox hanging from it. I picked it up and kept looking around, there was this white heart with a dove on it, it was a heart, had a silver sparkle to it and read “” I picked it up in memory of my Mom. Breaks my heart to be without her, but this made my heart smile, just a little bit!

I then saw Urban Outfitters-Which I happen to enjoy quite a bit. They always have very entertaining things to look at. They had a sushi stapler that made me giggle, I get a kick out of their book selection. There was one that said “How to live with having a big penis” I giggled and thought; does that really happen? Do men really have that issue? If so, where does one go about meeting said men? You know.. Market research of course!
I saw the book I’ve been looking for, and by looking for I mean half-assed looking for, of course. It’s called, “Are You There Vodka, It’s Me, Chelsea” By Chelsea Handler. Since I am currently reading her other book, it was the hardback of the book and was $24.95 I didn’t feel like spending that much on it, I figured if it was $14.95 or under I would pick it up. Looks like I will be picking it up on Amazon!

They also had a “Poop Journal” it’s things like this that really do make me go hmmm…who is the person that has to log their bathroom time, and get specific with it? Then I came across a book I couldn’t refuse to buy. “I Can Haz Cheeseburger” if you are not familiar with it, go to the website NOW! http://icanhascheezburger.com/%0d (sidebar) I just went there and busted up laughing so hard I gave myself a headache) I can’t even begin to tell you the countless hours I’ve spent here, mostly on work hours (back in the days of working) and the endless stream of tears that ran down my face while the laughter hit me! Amy and I would email these pictures back and forth to each other several times a day, so you can imagine my excitement to find a book and for only $10! I bought two, it’s not the same unless I can share it with Amy! So excited to give it to her next week when I visit her in Virginia Beach!

I went in and out of shops they even had a “Cheers” bar..you know, where they always know your name? I went in there and they had shot glasses, so in my crazy quest to collect shot glasses from every state, I picked up two. Outside of the Cheers store they had one of those penny machines, I think they’re called “Penny Presses” I got excited (I do this over random shit apparently) I get my 51 cents out, and its broken. Nooooo! I need you to be un-broken penny machine I like to collect pressed pennies from random places when I can find them. Looks like I am out of luck for this one!

I needed to get a Red Sox hoodie. I am a Yankees fan, but I enjoy the BoSox too, I know it’s a total conflict of interest but f it. They’re both amazing teams, have a long history behind them, and there aren’t any other fans as crazy as Yankee or Sox fans. Plus, while in Rome..do as Romans would do! (Rome=Boston in the case) I ended up in a Boston Sports Shop tons of BoSox & Patriots gear. I headed over to the hoodies choices were red or blue, I picked up the classic red with the “Red Sox” lettering on the front and also a red t-shirt, same lettering on the front but on the back it has my favorite players name & number. Jacoby Ellsburry #24 I am so excited at this point to check out, the guy rings me up tells me there is no sales tax…Sweet! Which somehow makes me want to buy more, so I did, I picked up one of those baseball bracelets made out of the lace of the baseball, has a “B” logo on it I almost picked up the one that had Beckett’s Name and Number on it, but the “B” will serve the same purpose. I asked the guy helping me where I could find another penny press, he told me it’s on the other side of the shops, so we walk around, I can’t find it. We ask another guy he tells us walk a little further near a glass building and it should be right there. My friend has the iPhone so he google maps “penny machine” and don’t you know that sucker came up “Penny Press” and directed us in the area it was. I’m not a big fan of the iPhone, I call it the iSuck because my friend always has reception issues, but I am starting to come around to it the more I use it. We head back to get the car out of parking and it was $35 WHAT? I’m sure Bostonians are accustomed to that, but I am not! Holy shit, $35 from 2-24 hours and before that its anywhere from 20-35. I couldn’t believe it! That wraps up our fantastic day of shopping at the QM, take a brief tour of the city on the way out, we drove through China town-which is exactly how it sounds, an entire neighborhood of Chinese-Foo Restaurants and corner stores! It was something to experience!

Head back to the hotel to rescue the dogs and just veg out for a while before we head back downtown to Monica’s for dinner. On the way back, I said “So I was going to get us tickets to the Craig Ferguson show in New York, but they show it in LA once I looked into it” My friend said “What Forbidden Show?” I started cracking up, apparently Craig Ferguson=Forbidden, I tell him again what I said, and bust up laughing. We get back to the hotel, get into the room open the bathroom door and the midgets are so ecstatic to see me, I love that they love me! Again, second day in a row-Bella has pottied in the bath tub, what a good girl! We head out to dinner about 8:45ish, place closes at 10 and it takes about 40 minutes to get down there or so. The damn GPS gets us lost as usual, I’m not sure if its Boston and the way the streets are so close together or if Magellan really just sucks! We make it to the area just after 9:30 and we realize this is “Little Italy” there are a ton of Italian bakeries, gelato places, corner Italian stores, its so unique, just as the rest of Boston the streets are tiny enough to accommodate mini coopers and that is about it. Seems that Monday is trash day, I see bags of trash alongside every store front! No big deal, Boston is a clean town other wise.

We walk into Monica’s and it’s a very intimate setting, “exclusive” if you will. There are maybe 8 tables, it is all brick walls, black and white stenches align the walls, its all low lightning and candle lights adorn the tables. It really is a very warm setting. They had home-made Spanish Sangria; I love Sangria I had to order it. It was very full bodied and had a smooth taste to it from the first sip to the taste it left in my mouth. I ordered a anti-pasta tray with some sort of mozzarella, fresh figs and tomatoes. It was the perfect combination everything tasted amazing. For dinner I ordered the “Sweet Italian Sausage & Muscle Arbiata with Spinach Linguini” It was so juicy, had the right about of spicyness in the sauce and the sweet sausage countered it perfectly.

Everything here is made from scratch, it was so flavorful and delicious. I am not a muscle fan, I’ve never really eaten them, but this dish sounded way too good to pass up, and it was. The muscles were amazing, cooked perfectly and with the Arbiata sauce it just made the meal so delicious. I always drink coke with meals, tonight I was really thirsty, I had about 5, in conjunction with my yummy sangria! The place cleared out about 10pm the few other tables left and it was just my friend and I enjoying the rest of our dinner. It was time for desert, The choices were: bread pudding, flour-less chocolate cake or crème brulee, I heard bread pudding and stopped listening at that point. I had never had bread pudding, and felt adventurist this evening, I ordered that, my friend got the chocolate cake. The pudding came out, like a piece of pie, it had a bit of chocolate in it, which made it extra yummy. I was beside myself, it was delicious, how had I never had this before? I tried a bite of the flour-less chocolate cake, it was very rich, good, but overly rich for my tastes. I finished the yumminess of the bread pudding and our waitress brought our bill, as she set it down, I asked her to add another bread pudding to it. I’m in Boston, I only live once, why not have two desserts? It is THAT good after all! I couldn’t finish the entire second piece, my friend graciously helped me finish the rest. We got the bill it was $104!!! I said “I got it” he did after all pick up the “70” lunch tab, it’s the least I could do, he’s driven me everywhere I wanted to go without a battle! I browse over the bill and 5 cokes = $10 and to boot, they’re out of a can, not even a fountain! The girl ran out on the last one and ran to their store to grab another can. I didn’t know that coke is $2 a can! Regardless, it was worth the money for the food and the amazing experience!!

We walk out and hit up a bakery, not that we’re hungry, just to check out what they have. Italian bakeries are the best, I’ve never seen so many on one street!! They have fresh fruit tarts, which I think are better than sex..good fruit tarts that is. I couldn’t eat any, way to full, and staying in a hotel they’ll never taste as good, I saw they had fresh almond biscotti. I do love biscotti, and its fresh? What is better than that? It is $9 a box and they also have pizzelle waffle cookies that are fresh! I love those too, I bought both for $18( I am very much impulse buyer, I call it the sea-buy approach- I see things I buy them hehe)

We walk out of the bakery and directly across the street there is a post office called “Prince Postale” there is a movie being filmed there, looks low budget. We stand across the street and watch it; there are “extras” outside who are being qued to stand there apparently. In side there is a guy in a white lab coat with a shirt and tie on and that is all you can see since he is behind the counter, there is another guy in there, and that is all I can make out. The guy-I assume who is the director says “Quiet on the set” as soon as he says that, 2 doors down you see a guy pulling out a trash can down the 3 stairs, the moment the words leave the directors mouth the trash can hits the 3 stairs and makes a loud boom noise. The look on the trash-guy’s face is priceless and he says “oops.” That is about the excitement of that we walked back to the car and headed back to the hotel for a nights rest. My friend has to use the restroom on the way home, so we stop at a rest stop since its on the way back. He is driving all crazy through the parking lot, it’s a McDonalds/Gas Station stop. Since he is driving through the parking lot like a mad man I said “They don’t have a drive-thru bathroom” He replied with “I was just going to open my ass…” I busted up laughing so hard, he tried to correct with “..I meant to say I was just going to open my door and run out” through the laughter I said “You sure are going to open your ass” He went inside, no kidding, I laughed the entire time he was gone, I stopped briefly and the second I saw him I started cracking up again!

Looks like another day of traveling tomorrow! Rhode Island, Connenicut & headed into New York! Should have a full day in the city on Tuesday!!

One Camera= Two Cameras!

I’ve noticed most of the people I know that have DSLR cameras also have a Point & Shoot camera. I mean, it would be almost impossible not to have both. You need the P&S for those random shots, for me, it’s usually random-drunken-moments. But, never the less its so much easier to cart around, put it in my purse and forget about it. I can’t imagine, handing over my DSLR to someone and asking them to take a picture of me!
Sidebar: While at the falls yesterday I had at least ten people come up to me and ask me to snap a picture for them. “will you take a picture of us?” I feel obligated to say yes. It’s just an automatic reaction. You know, like when people ask, “How are you?” The automatic answer is “Good and you?” Same thing happened while I was in Chicago shooting pictures. Maybe they assume, you have a good camera, you won’t chop their heads off? Regardless, I did it for everyone who asked. I did laugh a little when people said, the button is here. I have a good idea where the button on your P&S camera is; after all I am shooting on a little more complex camera than you!

Plus, I don’t want to haul around the bad-boy camera at a night club or wherever I might be going. The P&S is sufficient enough for those nights out. Plus my P&S has a flip-able screen, where you can look at the live view while you’re shooting. I just saw a commercial for a new Samsung P&S that shows a tiny live view on the front side of the camera, while it’s small and compact, and I am newly in love with Samsung thanks to my bitching HDTV & Blu-ray player. I am very content with my Canon Power Shot A640. 10.1 MP and worth every cent I paid for it back in ’06. I had the previous model that was 5.1 MP I believe, same sort of features. Love those cameras. Thought about possibly getting a “slimmer” model for my pocket since my P&S is a little more “bulky” but really, what is the point of upgrading when the one I have works perfectly?
Now, we should all know by now that I recently upgraded my DSLR, and by recently I mean 2 days ago. It’s a world of difference, and I haven’t even learned how the hell to use it. This will be rectified when I go to Houston. Becca & Justin are Canon whores/pros and know the ins and outs of these cameras, they’ve been shooting for a while and I’ve seen their work. It’s “whoa” worthy for sure. I’d love to book them for my wedding, since they recently started up R&J Studios. And by my wedding, I mean, 5+ years down the road when I find Prince Charming riding his White Horse, the works. Point being is, they’re going to hit it big, and I want to lock in the “friend” price hahaha. Anyways, I haven’t been to Texas since early ’05 and even then, it was just to visit a friend in college, didn’t get to experience the town or the scenery. Looking forward to that trip to see them, hang out and become a better photographer!

Welcome To Boston!!!

It’s about a 7 hour car drive from Upstate-New York to Boston. We’re trying to avoid NYC on the weekend with all the madness that NYC already brings, so we decided to add Boston to the Route late last night.
My morning started at about 7:30 am, where I felt Milo pawing at me, which is not something he ever does, because when I am sleeping so are the puppies. He was playing puppet, as my friend was playing puppet master. Right, the SAME friend who snoooooooored all night, and I didn’t bother to wake him up. So after a brief “snap” at him..if you will I was able to rest until about 10:30, where a text comes in and wakes me up.
Friend of mine registered my cars for me in Florida while I was in Colorado handling legal things; she needed the money by the end of the month since it was through her work. I went over to her boyfriend’s house on Tuesday, gave her a check, and told her that it wouldn’t be available until Thursday-due to the bank hold on the new account. She understood and wouldn’t deposit it until then. I had to give it to her on Tuesday since I was leaving on Wednesday for over a week. Well, don’t you know this morning I get a texts that says, the check was returned and now her account is negative. Ugh, I HATE dealing with issues on vacation. She told me she deposited it on Tuesday (now, Tuesday is not Thursday is it? NO) and when? I left at 10pm they were going to bed, did she really run out and deposit it that night in the ATM? Which would make the bank get it Wednesday and process it, and then they returned it Friday? No bank clears a check in a day! They just told her this morning, on a Saturday? I just can’t get the pieces to add up. Her account she says is negative the amount of the check, which makes me believe that her account had a $0 balance + amount of check – cash = $0 balance right? Now it’s – amount of check, the only way that math works is if I added in the –cash! Who has $0 in their account? She makes very good money, and I find myself wondering where it goes? Not that it is my concern what so ever, just in this situation I don’t understand it! On top of that, the bank is to present the check twice, I informed her of this info (I worked at a bank, I know how it works) she said, she was told they sent the check back to me. What? How would they know where I live? It’s a temporary check, without an address on it. They wouldn’t send it back to me- they would give it back to her, or redeposit it. She said she knows it’s not my fault (which I agree, I told her PRIOR to this, to wait till Thursday when the funds are OFF hold) the day goes on from here…
It’s now time to get the ball rolling, get the dogs together and pack the car back up! I started getting the back seat ready, yesterday I bought 2 Niagara shot glasses and a Buffalo one as well and put them on the floor of the back seat. I couldn’t seem to find them, so I asked my friend; He told me he threw them away, thinking it was the bag of trash in the back. The dumpster was about ten feet away, he went to retrieve them. Funny thing is, the bag of trash was still in the exact same place he had put it earlier yesterday. Who throws away something heavy without looking in it? Thank god he retrieved it; I didn’t have to whoop his ass!
We took bumpy toll road after bumpy toll road, welcome to the North East-where you pay to drive on every damn road, and you have to take one toll road to another, just to get to another! It’s a little bit insane.
Along the way, we stopped at lunch there was a rest-stop with an Arby’s and a Tim Horton’s, which I’ve never heard of. Apparently its some sort of bakery joint. My friend got doughnuts, and I picked up an “all fruit” muffin. I had no idea what the hell, “all fruit” entails, but never the less, it had to be good. There was a gift shop in the rest-stop as well with all sorts of NY gifts. I picked up 2 I <3 NY shot glasses. One for myself, one for Amy, who I’ve told from the get-go of these travels I’d get her a set of shot glasses from every state I stop in. What a good friend I am J they also had another tie-die blanket. When I saw it, I knew I had to get it, despite the previous blog where I talked myself out of this purchase, this time, there wasn’t an option. The other one said “Maid of the Mist” not “Niagara” so that was my reason to avoid it, oh, and it was $35 to boot. They did however have two colors there, blue tie-dye and the traditional tie-die. This place in Rochester, only had one, traditional-it was also $29, so I talked myself into having it. I now am the proud owner of a NY tie-dye blanket! I get back in the car, put the muffin in the door for later and we head out.
We’ve gotta stop for a break and get something to drink a few hours later, leave the kiddos in the car, it’s a quick run in, I grab a sweet tea, and my friend goes to the gift shop and picks up some I <3 NY shirts. We get back to the car, to discover Milo (the little terror) has located the muffin, taken a bite out of the paper and the top of the muffin, which happens to be the best part. He’s also chewed the lid off my root beer cup. I’ve noticed him do this the last month or so with trips, but for some reason I forget to remove the cup from the drink stealer situation. He is smart and sneaky, little shit!
We got into town about 8ish and decided to stay in Worcester, MA which is about 20 minutes outside of Boston where it’s cheaper, and clearly a little less “secure.” The hotel has a one dog per room rule; and you’re not supposed to leave the “one” dog unattended. I stayed in the car while my friend checked us in. This hotel doesn’t have individual entry doors like the last one did, which I prefer, especially with dogs. There is a back entrance we used since the lady didn’t ask about dogs, he didn’t volunteer that information. We park in the back, grab all of our crap, which seems like less when you have to walk five feet to the door versus inside and up an elevator! I grab the munchkins and head in after him; I walk through the entry way, and realize the elevator is right in plain view of the front desk. Not only that, but, the front desk sits a whole hellva lot lower than the platform the elevator is on. The woman looks at me, smiles and tells me how cute my dogs are. I’m trying to get into the elevator with all of my crap over my shoulders and two leashes in my over stuffed hands. It didn’t occur to me until that second, the dogs haven’t ever been in an elevator. They didn’t want to come in, I’m trying to pull them in so they don’t get caught in the door- Success! They got in and did just fine for the one flight we were on the elevator.
Its about 8:30 and time to find out what to do, where to go, and what is good to eat in Boston. We get online find some Pizza joint downtown grab the address, put the dogs in the bathroom with their bed and roll out. Its cold out, about 52 degrees but it feels a lot colder, plus Boston is on the water. We have to get on the MassPike to get to Boston, the GPS isn’t very clear on directions. It’s a Magellion (I prefer my Garmin) it tells you a lot of “slight” rights and “slight” lefts at the last second or sometimes way after the fact. We had to turn around once, which was more like 3 times since it involved so many different highways and what not. Very odd place! We get downtown, get to the spot just to find it closed. We google some more spots to grab some Pizza and end up driving around this odd city. Now the GPS has incorporated “diagonal” rights and lefts! WTF is that? It is confusing that is exactly what it is! The city is hard to get around in, the way the streets are angled, the lack of signs at intersections I don’t find it “tourist-friendly.” It does share some of the same driving skills we’ve seen in NY, within one second-not even kidding, ONE second after a light has changed from red to green if you are not flooring it, the people behind you will honk! I have to giggle when it happens because; it is amazing how inpatient the northerners are! at Boston House of Pizza. The sign says “Voted Best Pizza 07-08” The place was pretty busy, you order at the front and its like cafeteria seating through the rest of the place. We order a pepperoni pizza. Takes about ten mineunts to cook, We grab a seat by the window and just watch the people. It’s a college town, or so it seems. The Berklee College of Music is just up the street, which explains most of the crowd. Pizza is done, we get it, bite into it, and its..meh! I’ve had better sorry to say! It was alright at best but a little disappointing after reading it was “THE BEST” in the city.
Its time for the night life, at least a taste! We headed over to the Fenway area there is a row of bars alongside the park. We park and head into an Irish Bar, Has a big sign that it was voted #2 as the Best Baseball Bar. With Boston being Irish, and myself as well, it was only fitting to order beers. I grabbed a Blue Moon and my friend had White Castle (Hey I didn’t say I felt the need to drink Irish beer, just beer to show the spirit) After a beer, I switched back to my drink of “comfort” Amaretto Sour. The bar is pretty busy, there is of course, Red Sox memorabilia over the walls. Now, being a Yanks fan you’d think I would be there to start a fight; I secretly like both teams, so it was cool to see it all. This is about where I start picking up on the “fashion” of Boston. The trend is skinny jeans, no matter who you are, you wear skinny jeans. Man, woman, gay, straight-all of them in skinny jeans. Most of the chicks are wearing slouch boots, and if you’re not wearing skinny jeans, you are definitely wearing leggings, an over sized sweater, and some trendy hat or scarf. To substitute your slouch boots with your skinny jeans, you’re wearing some sort of open toed three-inch-heel-minimum-shoe. There are of course the few “riskay” chicks in the bars wearing a micro mini with some sort of fabric that looks like it is attempting to make a comeback from the 80’s era, same sort of heels of course. If that doesn’t strike you, then you’re wearing a Boston College or other alma motto screen print tee, your hair is in some sort of a messy possibly dirty pony tail and make up, it’s a hit or miss at that point. What would a night out be without at least one guy in plaid shorts who can’t find a matching tee to go with it to save his life? Oh yes, there was one of those yahoo’s at the bar as well. I am entertained by Boston.
There are 2 chicks that sit next to me at the bar, well, one sits and the other stands inbetween her friend and I. I am watching the highlights of the College Football games & Baseball Scores, same as you would do in anyother sports bar right? The girl who is standing keeps getting closer and closer to me, Mind you, on the diagonal side of the bar, its completely open. She has to know shes that close to me, one would think. I scoot my chair over and continue to converstate with my friend, and catch the ESPN highlights.
A guy comes over, starts talking to these two chicks, who moments earlier were devising a plan to text some guy back, what to say, how to say it..you know the typical chick thing. A Guy strike up a conversation gets their names, brings his friend back over, introduces him to them and backs away. Chick #1 is still consumed by the previous text issue it seems. Chick #2 was given the rundown on the guy she was introduced to prior to him walking over. Chick #2 is the entertaining of the two, here is how
Chick #2: So, you’re going into the Marines?
Guy: Yes I am
Chick #2: What Branch?
Guy: Uh, The Marines
Chick #2: I know, Never mind, I know Military I am from Rhode Island. So, how old are you?
Guy: 24, you?
Chick #2: 22
Guy: You’re a little young
Chick #2: I said 22, that’s not that young. So why are you going into the marines
Guy: Its just something I’ve always wanted to do.
Chick #2: So, like, did you go to college, and get a 4 year degree or?
Guy: No, the ASVAB is hard.
There is some other small talk that happens after this, I stopped listening, mostly because I am still cracking up that she knew he was going into the Marines, then asked what branch, then tries to tell him she knows Military? Wow. Blonde!
While her friend is still consumed by the text saga, some other tool comes over and puts his arm around Chick #1, kisses her, about this time Marine is starting to back off a little bit, and move to the left. I turn back to check the score of another game, and see tool now kissing Chick #2. He seems totally gay, I could be off, but wtf? Marine hangs out for a little while longer, trying to jump into the conversation and eventually leaves. It was very entertaining!
We finish our drinks, close the tab and I picked up two shirts from the bar, and they look cool! $20 each, but hey, I am on vacation. We head back 25 miles to the hotel, able to find our way this time with the GPS oddly enough, pay all the tolls and head up to the room. We get in the dogs are screaming for me, I open the door and its again, like they haven’t seen me in months. I look in the bathroom, which is TINY TINY by the way the last bathroom in NY rocked. Milo has managed to unroll ALL of the toilet paper, and even somehow shredded the cardboard at the end of the roll. I had to laugh! Then I see in the tub again, that Bella has gone potty in there. What a good girl! Two days in a row!!
That wraps up the first night in Boston, sightseeing in the morning, switching hotels since this one sucks, and staying another night in B-town!

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of The World!!

I can officially check off Niagara Falls from my "To See/Do" list!

After sleeping in for what felt like forever, we headed to the falls this morning. Its about 20 miles from where we're staying. We get there, park the car, and head out to the walk way. The sound you hear with the water rushing over the edge is just amazing. I thought the Ocean was magical to hear the waves crashing up against the beach, pfft. This takes the cake. It will take your breath away, its so beautiful, the water is so clear, its like a color I've never seen before. I've seen Blue-blues and Green-greens, but this some how falls in the middle. The weather was cool and perfect, It reminds me of Colorado life, Crisp cool fall days rock!

I am excited to use the new camera today, little nervous since I've only got one shot to make it right. Who knows when and or if I will be back to see this. I start snapping pictures, different angles, not so much different settings, rolling with the "landscape" mode, seems the safest and is turning out pretty awesome if I do say so myself. I left the baby Nikon camera at the hotel, I don't even want to bother bringing two, let alone wasting the good pictures on a 6.1mp vs a 15.1mp!
It was weird to see the boarder of the US & Canada, like it was RIGHT there, its on a bridge, that crosses the Niagara river, on on side there is the US Boarder and then the other side is the Canada boarder, Just cool to actually see it, you know?
There are 2 main falls, The American Falls, and the Horse Shoe Falls. We take pictures for an hour or so, go to the observation deck which sits pretty high up on the river, and you're able to see right to the Horse Shoe falls, well, you're able to see the spray from it. hell you can see the Spray from the first bridge over the Niagara river. Its crazy, I saw it driving in last night, and you can see it about 500 feet in the air!
We take the boat to the falls, and we get the little blue ponchos and board the vessel. I thought we took awesome pictures from up above, but man, once you're on the water and can look up to the American falls its so amazing. I was just in Awe of it. I tried to snap as many pictures as I could, and you're getting sprayed off the falls so I'm trying to keep the lens clear of water. You can see so many rainbows from the boat, its beautiful. There is a separate fall off the American falls, there are people standing under it, in a fenced area, just getting drenched, I shivered for them. They're crazy! Its about sixty-degrees in New York today, and that water feels cold. I can't imagine getting soaked from it, and then having to walk up stairs forever to get to the car, Ick!
We head into the Horse Shoe falls, and the spray is just over whelming, the boat is a-rockin and its hard enough to see the HS falls with the amount of spray, let alone trying to focus a camera and snap pictures. We did what we could. My friend took video of it, which was awesome to watch after wards, I'm going to steal the footage from him. I've never really seen the point in video cameras unless you have kids, but here it really turned out to be a good thing. Granted his point and shoot does video, but still. Cool!
We then walk up along side of the falls where there is a stair case, not where the crazy people are, that's on the other side of the falls. We snapped some pictures, and head out to the gift store, where I didn't find anything that I had to have, few cool things. I saw this tie-dyed blanket, but it said "Maid of the Mist" which is the boat, and I wanted more authentic Niagara Falls stuff. Plus the blanket was $35 and while I love blankets, a cool fleece one does the trick for me anyways.
From where we parked it was $10 to park, and that got us into Niagara State Park as well, where you can get closer to the Horse Shoe falls. Well, you can get close, but since you're standing next to it, you can't see the whole thing. The best view is from the Canada side, but my friend doesn't have a passport so Canada is out. Which totally sucked, the needle is over there, all the high-tower places are over there, killer views. Man, Canada has all the cool stuff!
I was more impressed by the American Falls, since you can see it clearer, and there is less spray, the HS falls is unique too!
I took well over 500 pictures, in day one, of new camera. I didn't think I took that many, felt like 100, but hell, I'd rather take too many, and not enough, since I can always erase the ones I don't like or what not, I can't make more images if I didn't take enough the first time around.
We went to Dinner at Chili's and it took forever, slow service, and I was tired, Planned on seeing a movie like we normally do on Friday nights, movie was at 9:50 came back here about 8:40 to check on the dogs. I put them in the bathroom before we left, Man, they were so excited to see me. I go to let them out, and see that Bella (I know it was her, she's the smarter of the 2) had gone potty in the bathtub. I was so proud of her. I think its like that moment that your child goes potty in the big-kid toilet. Granted I have no idea how that feels, and this could totally be a fluke, but regardless I was a proud mamma.
I laid down to watch tv, and was out. Woke up at 10:10 and missed the movie. My friend was tired too, its 11:49 now, and he is snoooooooooring. So its okay we missed the movie, we can catch it any other time.
So, that's it for our Niagara/Buffalo stay, Tomorrow, I believe we're headed to Boston for a day or two, then off to NYC. I'd like to see Boston, and its not too far away from here, plus we're trying to avoid NYC on the weekend so it doesn't get crazy! I have a ton of things I want to see & do in NYC. I've been dying to go there for a few years!

The Travel Chronicles of The Road

After a random text and a brief talk...I am off to New York. Just like that! I'm one of those people that all you have to do is say "Hey, do you want to go to...." and more than likely I'm like "Yup..lets do it" Maybe its my new outlook on life..I just want to live it, do it, see it and be able to say, I did all of these things, instead of wanting to do all of these things.
Random Texts came in Sunday night while watching football and we left late on Wednesday-with dogs in tow and whoa, right out of the gate seemed to be issue after issue. The initial plan was to leave at 9am. Which almost never happens as you plan, I hate life sometimes for that, but whatever! I was feeling sick the night before. You know, when it starts to kind of get harder to swallow, and you're like shit..its coming. I poured myself into bed and ohhhh, 4:30am, woke up about 10 texted my friend to see what our departure time was and what not. Well, his a/c went out in his house, which is the WORST freaking feeling in Florida, ever! He was waiting on the a/c guy to come out. I popped in "He's just not that into you" and passed out on my couch for what felt like a life time. The plan was to go to Tampa and get my new Canon 50D camera, but since I was McSicky that didn't happen. The other issue was, I was waiting on a check to clear my bank so I had access to my new bank account. Damn you 7 day bank hold!
So, I get to his house at 4, we head into Tampa in the middle of rush hour so I can get this Bad-Boy camera, I go in, get the camera, get the accessories and dart for the check out, gal rings it up gives me the speech about the extended warranty (which I was already sold on) and I proceed to write a check. I'm excited, I am mentally already taking pictures with this camera in New York, and then she tells me they don't take "starter checks" WTF? Its not like its a BAD account its just NEW and might I add its good! So, I have to leave the store with out this amazing camera, I am sad! I get out to the car, no bags, and forgot the coupon! Hey I am not much of a coupon person, but it was 10% off and that bad-boy camera was costing a pretty penny. So I went back in, got my coupon, looked at the bag of happiness that held my camera and had to leave again, with out it. Walk back to the car and get a new game plan. We'll just get it in Delaware, no sales tax there? Schweeet! Deal!
So, by the time we get some food, gas and get the F out of traffic its about 6pm on Wednesday. We drive from Florida to Georgia, which, felt like forever on 95! Then up to South Carolina and of course North Carolina, which took us till the middle of the night. Which at that point I passed the hell out. The deal was, I would go if I didn't have to drive, since I've driven across country already this summer, I'm driven out! I woke up to the car alarm going off at 5am in a rest stop. Which was like the loudest alarm ever. Apparently we pulled off so my friend could get some z's and when he reached for the key he hit the wrong button, I think we woke everyone at the rest stop up, whoops! I went back to sleep and when I got up again we were in West Virginia, which was all foggy. It felt like 7:30 am. Really, I woke up, and thought, whoa, its foggy, feels like 7:30 am. I asked what time it was, it was 7:30 am, How did my body know that? The trip thus far was okay, I'm getting more sick before I'm getting better so the more I can rest the better off I am. Of course my poor friend has been driving all night.
In WV we stopped for breakfast and to get shot glasses, my new collection includes shot glasses from states I'm driving thru, we stopped at Walmart, cuz they always have tourist stuff, after walking around for some 20 minuets, no-go! A lady as we were leaving pulled us aside to tell us about the store she works in and all of the souvenir stuff they had. She said "It's called Dove-like the bird" and she really flapped her arms so we understood that its a "bird" reference, It was pretty comical!
WV lead us into Pennsylvania which takes F-O-R-E-V-E-R to get across, its annoying how long it is, I thought Kansas was bad, this is WORSE! As we enter into the Northern-Snow states the quality of the roads goes to shit. Its a rough ride, no matter what kinda car you're driving. At this point we're on to Thursday, which is money day I called it, The day the check finally cleared the bank. So, we've gotta hit up the bank since Chase takes it sweet ass time to send me a damn Debit card. Life would have been TOO easy if it came on Wednesday right? Pfft. Didn't happen! So you'd think there would be a Chase bank in Pittsburgh right? WRONG! The closest one is in Ohio, which is totally out of the way, oh and not to mention, since we decided to go to the Falls first, then NYC Delaware was out of the question, so getting Bad-boy camera would have to be done in Buffalo NY.
We head out to the "detour" so I can have some cash, its about an hour out of the way, whatever, we hit the road, get into Ohio to Chase, I'm expecting some sort of delay with the bank, and thankfully the stars aligned that day, all went smoothly. We passed Sharron, PA and they happened to have a Quaker Steak & Lube Restaurant. Which I happen to love, and they're voted best wings, USA. So it has to be good right? I was already sold, I go to the one in Clearwater back in Florida. So we head into PA to get on track, stop at Sharron, PA and it felt dirty. Run down city, old-which I love old cities, this one was old and poorly maintained, it gave you a grimey, gringy feeling to it. The people didn't change your mind of the town either. We have lunch, take it all in, and hightail it out of that shithole!
From PA, we head into NY and its pretty smooth from there, we get into Buffalo/Niagara about 7pm. Its time to hit up Best buy, at this point we've been traveling for 24 hours, its about 21 hours to get from FL to Upstate-NY so we're doing well. I check online for best buy and who has the camera, and head out to the one in Buffalo, or so I thought. We had already crossed the 2 big bridges and tolls on the Niagara side, the Buffalo store is behind us, so we cross the two bridges, again, and tolls, and back-track about 15 miles. Oops.
I get into the store, its about 7:45 march over to the Digi-Cam sign, tell the 19 year old what I want, he tells me he sold the only one they had about four hours ago. I gasped, and now I'm just tires, sick and cranky. He checks inventory to see who has it, and I'm thinking...Great its going to be in Albany or NYC which is a good 8 hours away. We're scheduled to go to the falls in the morning and I REALLY wanted to shoot with the new camera. Why take the shitty Nikon when I can have crisp amazing pictures from a Canon? Not that my Nikon is a POS, its just not as bad-ass as my "potential" new camera! He checks, there is one about 10 miles away. I get in the car, tell my friend the bad news, oh and to top it off, when he called the store to verify if they have it, and hold it, some biaaatch told him they wont hold it because they're closing in an hour. WTF? There is only ONE..ONE of them and she wont hold it till I can get there? So I have a mini panic-attack. You know when you're set on something and you're under a time line, and its that anxiety of are you going to make it or not? Well add that, plus we needed to get gas, plus I wasn't in control of the car, so everything just felt so slow to me. We get to Best buy about 8:30 and I RUN in there, right to the Digi Cam place and see a guy, I tell him I need to buy a camera. he looks at me and said, hold on let me get someone who works in this department, WHAT? You're just standing here and you don't work in this department, UGH! I am secretly crossing my fingers and HOPING that they have this cam! Guy unlocks the door, and Viola..its there. I get it, get the goods, check out and head back into the car.
Just to hear my friend tell me that Bella got sick and threw up all over my blanket, the dog bed,and the sheet in the back seat. I feel so bad for her. I know its because she hasn't had anything today. Milo ate and drank and Bella didn't want to. We get a hotel that takes pets and wont charge us extra..sweet! I clean up all of the mess and charge the batteries to the Camera and head to bed! It's been a LONG day!

Life In The Fast Lane!

I'm the kind of person who will have an idea pop into my head and just like that becomes a "must do" its no longer an idea, its an action. I'm not sure if I've always been like that, or just as I get older I learn more about life and how short it is. I want to live in the here and now, I want to LIVE life and experience what it has to offer, I want to want things, and I want to be able to obtain them. Its not a materialistic thing, as much as I don't want to limit myself on things that can be obtained easily. I want to be happy, and while I am not emotionally ready to let anyone else in. I am ready to make myself happy, and do whatever I can for myself to make me that way.
All of that said. I want a bike. I've always thought I wanted it, but was too scared, or too unsure to actually set out and get one. Granted I would take the course, get my license and then buy one. I'm not that irrational. Just spontaneous.
I've been around bikes my whole life, and they've always had their "appeal" to them, I was around Harley's and never got to experience the Crotch-Rocket saga that usually sweeps people my age. I went for a ride while I was in Ft. Riley visiting Kelli & her entourage. (see blog regarding that trip) after going 120+ on a back Kansas road, I felt something "new" some sort of fear meets excitement all at the same time.
I love fast, cars, trucks, bikes, planes-all except fast men that is! hahaha! I haven't decided on what exact model of bike I want, I need to go sit on them and see what "feels" right. I do know that I want the "Big Girl" bike, and to me that is 1000cc! I'm sure getting a 1000cc for a first bike isn't exactly "desirable" to most of you. But I know me, and I know that if I get something smaller I will be trading up in a mere matter of months and kick myself in the ass for not going with what I wanted from the get-go. I am not one to settle, I've learned that the hard way, so I don't want to limit myself to the "baby" bike. I will adjust to whatever it is I have, I can handle speed, I know bike speed is different. But again, I will be safe with it, and won't be pushing it until I am very comfortable. Bottom line is, really, I've had so many bad things in my life, I'm not concerned about tomorrow, when I can live for today.
I don't want a new bike, I really don't want to spend the money on a new one, when chances are I will set it down at some point. People keep telling me all newbs do. I don't want the payments and really, I am not sure how long this " I wanna go fast" phase is going to last.
I don't JUST want a bike. I want a Lightning too. I've always loved them, and decided that now is the time to indulge myself, in bike, truck, whatever the F comes next in the "phase" but, it is what I want, and really.. who am I to tell myself no? Hahaha.
So, on to the lightning phase-hey, I'm keeping it in the Ford Family!! I would LOVE to get my hands on an 03/04 Sonic Blue, DSG, or White one. I don't see it happening for what I want to spend and what I want done to the truck. I've never been a Red fan, but its growing on me. I would like something more "flashy"! DSG has been great on Shadow, and I love the color-slightly obsessed would cover it, I believe. Now I want something that "POPS" in pictures that stands out and says, Whoa..check me out. I believe Red would do that. I think I am leaning more towards Red since I saw a nicely modded Red L out of Dallas earlier.
I don't want to settle on a truck just to have a truck. While a low mile truck would be nice, I would really enjoy a nicely built truck, because when it comes down to it, say I spend 15k on a stock truck, I then have to mod it, now if I get a nicely modded truck for 15k with maybe a little bit more miles on it.. I'm golden. I want to be picky about it, and then I just want to be happy with it, and fast=happy. I can learn to live with any color, EXCEPT black. I don't want black, too much up keep and blah..someone ruined black for me on Lightnings.
I can't pass up a good opportunity, I have my eyes open for one, and hopefully one comes along. Granted I don't NEED it now, I NEED to get rid of a few of the other vehicles I have, but if the right one comes into my life, I'm not passing it up! I don't mind traveling to get it, hell at this point it wouldn't be anything different than what I've done all summer!
So..here is to happy Lightning hunting & to being able to get into a class to get my motorcycle license in the next few weeks, That is IF..big IF I can stay in the state for more than one week a month! The good thing is they have them every weekend in Orlando, so when I stop getting the Travel-bug I can pick it up anytime :)

The Midgets & Their Un-welcomed "Friends"

So, as I sit here at 3:25am on, now, Saturday Morning, here goes today's story. Tonight is the first night in, I don't even know how long, that I won't let my Puppies sleep with me. Puppies, Monsters, Midgets, I call them all of these randomly. It seems they have fleas, which makes me feel dirty. I don't really know about fleas, I've never had to have an experience with them. I do however, feel bad for the puppies. We just got back from a 3 week road trip from Florida to Colorado and back again. I think they must have gotten them from outside my apartment last night, because I didn't notice it till this afternoon/evening. At of course which time, was too late. They got a bath around 1pm and then were left home while I was out all evening. I got home again at 2am (which I know sounds bad since it was 12 hours, but they weren't neglected, I assure you) and I thought to myself that maybe they were just dirty and the shower I gave them earlier had corrected the issue. Wrong. I saw something on Milo's paw, it was small and black and it jumped from him to the bathroom floor, as I screamed " WHOA" and immediately ran to Walmart-Which is always an adventure after 9pm on any given night. Shockingly enough, It was pretty painless, I didn't have to wait in line for more than two seconds and there wasn't a lot of action going on, which I like when I just want to get in and get out and be done with it.

I bought EVERYTHING, Flea collars, spray, shampoo, carpet sprinkle stuff (you know, you sprinkle it on, then vacuum it off?) bombs. The WORKS! I sprayed down EVERYTHING, put the collars on them and left them outside my bedroom. I feel bad, but I don't want to freak out and think that I feel something.. *shivers* I hate creepy stuff like that. So, when it hits 7am I'm getting up and taking the dogs out for a few hours and bombing the apartment to get rid of any sign of these little creepy icky things.
Bella & Milo are clean dogs, I am a clean person, But ewwwwy I can't wait to get out in the am and just kick this little issue in the rear and be done with it!

So tonight they are sleeping with out the normal "cuddles" no under the covers, and I still feel bad. :(

Waiting isn't fun..Watching can be!

Well, Now that I live here, I've converted all three of my vehicles to Florida Tags, got my drivers licence so it was only a matter of time till I actually would NEED to have a Florida bank, While I love both my Bank and my Credit Union, they're both local to Colorado, or atleas the Bank is more a West Coast bank. Although-they are taking over Wachovia-apparently not soon enough.
There is a bank right as you turn in to head to my apartment entrance, Bank of America. I decided that would be the bank of choice, it's close and that was pretty much the reason for my choice, logical I thought. I walk in with a check in my hand, ready to open an account. I go to the "new accounts" sign and ask to open a new account. The lady tells me to sign in, I look at the ledger, and above the blankness that would soon be my name, the name prior had been crossed off, so I am thinking, Wooo! I will be next, how easy. I started my journey purposley at 2pm to avoid the "rush" after all, it is a Wednesday, its not the end of the month, I should be in and out right? WRONG.
The lady then tells me to have a seat, I walk through the entry way just to see about ten people sitting there, I take a seat, attempt to pull out the current book I am reading "My Horizontal Life-A Collection of One Night Stands" By Chelsea Handler (Chelsea Lately) Now, Living in Florida I'm used to the "older people" no big deal, But instead of waiting and reading I get a little irritated. I am bringing MY money and business to this bank, why should I have to wait on them? I know you have to wait, but at 2pm and there are only maybe 2 new account reps working and the rest of the people are standing around doing who knows what? I wait about ten minuets, and decide that Bank of America is not fit for my "needs" and venture on to the next bank! But not before first scratching my name off the list! While I wasn't investing a fortune, I believe that it was important that I received more of a personal approach since I do have a choice of who holds my money.
While I was sitting at a stop light patiently waiting to turn into the chase parking lot I was watching traffic and what else was going on out side, and officer had pulled into the parking lot I was waiting to turn into, he had stopped and talked to a man walking along who looked like he might work for a cell phone carrier. I guessed this by what he was wearing, very "cell phone" like attire. The man was carrying a half of a gallon of what I can only guess was Tea, and here, it would have HAD to be sweet tea, which I thought would be odd to carry around, granted it was hot. But would a gallon of whatever-it-was really stay cold enough to make it to where he was going? I know this isn't the point of the story, but it still crossed my mind.
After watching that mini series unfold, I see a man walking across the street and I kind of studied him, what he was wearing and all..
There are a few things a man can wear that will make me melt on the spot, One of course is a Military uniform, soooo hot. Whoa. The second, however, is a business suit. I love a man in a nice tailored jacket, matching slacks, a bold shirt and tie, and of course coordinating shoes. Now, if worn together can bring me weak in the knees. There is usually only ONE flaw that I come across and it happened JUST as my eyes followed him down the cross walk. WHITE SOCKS! Ugh, White socks? Really? I wondered if he always wore white socks with dress pants? This couldn't be his laundry day! I'm sure he was a white sock guy, which is perfectly fine. UNLESS you are wearing a suit, then you need to conform to the black sock dress guy! This guy had to be single, I know when I dated a "suit" (well "slacks" is better cuz there wasn't an entire outfit worn with it) I know I gave him a rashion of shit about it, I think it looks tacky. I had to assume, that this guy didn't have the "help" in the fashion department, and of course made me realise how much socks can really ruin the "suit" look for me.

I proceeded on to Chase to open an account. Walked in, there is a desk, where someone should greet you and ask you how they can help you right? Well, there is the desk, and no one is there to greet me. I have to go to the teller's line, there are 2 tellers, and both are helping other people. Now, I'm already on edge, aside from white-sock entertainment, I am still a little sour at the Bank of America waiting issue. Teller #1 is helping what I can only describe as Joe Dirt. Seems like a hardworking man, who is a little more hillbilly than the rest of us, and that's fine. But I grew a tad annoyed with him going over "pending" transactions and what he spent at Home Depot and why his Daughter needed this or that, and how he needed to make sure what was in his account before he took another trip to-I stopped listening at this point and just started getting a little annoyed. Now, When you walk into the "teller" line there are 3 desks, and a separate office/area over to the back left for drive up customers. There were already a few tellers back there working the drive thru, now why teller #2 felt the need to run back and forth as she was working the drive thru is beyond me. But every second that goes on, the more impatient I am getting. Finally #2 asks if she can help me. I tell her I need to open a new account. She THEN directs me back to the "ghost desk" to again sign in and the lady that does new accounts will be "Right There" she says. I go to the "ghost desk" a little upset again, no one is there, sign in, and wait. It feels like a good five minuets, which I'm sure isn't horrible, but there is NO ONE in this bank, why do I need to wait? I tell my self a few more moments and I am flying out of this bank and off to whatever is next! The woman comes out, starts talking to me about the checking accounts they offer and the rewards on their debit cards. I'm going to spend my money on a debit card no matter what, I might as well get points and rewards for it. I look into the options. Start opening my account, hand over the check, and while I knew they would put a hold on it, its a 5 business day hold, which holds all but $500 until Thursday the 24th. Which I'm sure is standard, I just wanted them to allow a little more than that. Oh well. On to the perks and the reward cards..

They offer a Travel card. I got excited. Travel? I LOVE to Travel, I seem to do it all the time, so If I can get points for money I already spend, and THEN use it to Travel..life is starting to sound sweet. So they offer either Continental Airlines, or United, I think I've maybe-maaaaybe flown Continental once? If that, so I check into United. Its 1 point for ever $2 you spend. I think, okay, I can work with that. Then I ask how many points you have to earn to cash in for a ticket. For United its 15,000-20,000 points. I do the math, and quickly think that after spending $10,000 THEN I get a ticket to go somewhere? Really? 10k and then I get magic ticket? What is the benefit of that? I can get a ticket to most of the places I go now for $200 and be done with it, 10k vs $200..yea, I opted for NO travel option. I did however take the "upgraded debit card" and get 4 points for every$1 I spend. Which I can get all sorts of other things with, Sounds like a better deal to me. Oh, and I get 2500 points on any card with the first purchase, which would still sucked to have travel "perks" but, I'm happy with the card I have coming to me...that is until my friend told me Bank of America prints Debit cards on the spot and I could have had a card right then and there. Oh well, I'll wait till Friday and then go shopping!
